Purpose of the Young Eagles Program

The purpose of Young Eagle Flights is to introduce young people to aviation. Since the program was launched in 1992, more than 1.2 million young people have taken a free airplane ride. During each flight, the pilot demonstrates how airplanes fly and the proper preparations for a safe flight. EAA's mission is to provide meaningful flight experience- free of charge in a general aviation aircraft for young people between the ages of 8 - 17. Each Young Eagle receives a certificate signed by the pilot and current Young Eagle Chairman Harrison Ford commemorating the event. There have been many Young Eagles that have chosen aviation to be their career and many  have become general aviation pilots as a result of the Young Eagles Program. A parent or guardian must sign permission forms for each Young Eagles Flight. Some of the parents may receive a free airplane ride under the EAA's Flying Start Program, if time and aircraft are available.
