Notice to Pilots page 94 of the November 2006 edition of the EAA Sport Aviation Magazine.
During the control check having experience with flying gliders, I do a full deflection check of the controls for range, freedom of movement and proper deflection. On this day I turned the yoke on the 172RG fully to the right and pushed it full forward. When I tried to center the controls, the yoke wouldn't budge. The controls were jammed in that position.
Afterward the flight mechanic found a screwdriver wedged between the aileron cable and pulley inside the right wing. The 172RG was fresh out of its 100-hour inspection.
What would happen if the controls in the plane you are flying jammed during flight? I have noticed that pilots that I fly with and me included, do not include the full control defection procedure as part of preflight.
